The government provides emergency supports to 50% of families out of 33. 177 flood-affected families in the country

DILI, 04 May 2021 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste registers to date 33.177 families affected by the natural disasters in all areas in Timor-Leste. 

“Today is one month complete from the natural disasters incident and the government registered the families of about 33. 177 have been affected by the disaster, from that number, almost 99% families in Dili and 10% from other municipalities, and the Government has provided emergency assistance including food and non-food items to 50% out of 33,177 families, “The Ministry of State and Administration, Miguel Perreira de Carvalho told the Journalists after meeting with the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak at the Palacio do Governo Dili. 

According to Mr. Carvalho, the team led by the Ministry of State and Administration (MAE) together with Civil Protection has conducted data collection for the houses that have been destroyed to receive recovery assistance from the Government. 

“The government is now focusing on community’s homes that have been destroyed due to natural disasters, according to the data report, around 25,000 families were affected by the disaster and around 24,000 houses were slightly damaged, 553 were moderately damaged and 554 were severely damaged,” he said. 

Mr. Carvalho said that in the ratification budget the government had set up a $ 55 million budget, which was authorized by the President Republic.

“The budget will be channeled to the Secretary of State for Civil Protection to provide further emergency assistance to the flood victims also for the repairing of community homes,” he said.
