Timor-Leste reports 140 new COVID-19 cases and one recovery

DILI, may 11, 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste today (11/05) confirmed 140 new COVID-19 cases and one recovery, the country’s CIGC said in a statement.

Of the new cases, 130 were found in capital Dili, two cases were confirmed in Baucau, two in Liquica, and six in Covalima municipality. 

The Coordinator of the CIGC, Rui Araújo said, the proportion of people infected with symptoms is 15.7%. Among the cases detected today, 78 composed of men and 62 composed of women.

Mr. Araújo added that there are currently 32 patients under the treatment at the Vera Cruz Isolation Center – 12 in the area of ​​obstetrics, 18 in internal medicine, in addition, one patient under severe condition and 17 moderate conditions while the other two in neonatology also in a moderate condition.

“The National Health Laboratory (LNS) has carried out 1,214 laboratory tests since yesterday, 34 were in the context of sentinel surveillance, 130 via contact screening, 462 through random screening, 541 following the requests for traveling authorization, and 37 in quarantine. In addition, on May 8, 653 tests were carried out in the municipalities,” he said.

With the recent outbreak, the number of active infections has soared to 1.723 with the total confirmed cases is 3.393 since the outbreak began in the country.

Likewise the total number of recovery is 1.683, within a month prompting lockdown and government warnings that include orders to deport anyone who breaches health regulations.

The CIGC appeals to all residents in Dili to continue to fulfill the preventive measures imposed by the MoH.
