DILI, may 18, 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste Customs Authority has collaborated with the Authority from the National Petroleum and Mineral to accelerate the import of the equipment for the oil drilling process by the Australian Firm Santos as operator of the Bayu Undan Joint Venture in the field of Bayu Undan.
The director of the Customs Authority of Timor-Leste, José António Fátima Abílio, said the equipment to be imported depends on the verification from the costume authority also the authority will have the responsibility to decide and collect the fee before the equipment reaches the hands of the oil company.
“For two years, we have held several meetings with the ANPM to discuss the issue of preparing new laws and procedures related to customs services. The objective is to proceed with oil drilling activities in the field of Bayu Undan. We are waiting for the updated information from the ANPM for us to do what we have to do, ” Mr. Abilio said recently after the meeting at Aitarak Laran Dili.
Likewise, The president of the ANPM, Florentino Soares Ferreira, said, the preparations for the drilling by the Santos company are taking place within the normal limits while waiting for the arrival of all the equipment within this month.
Mr. Ferreira ensures that the drilling activities at Bayu Undan field will bring economic benefits to the country, with the support and contribution from 30 Timorese technicians and some national companies, which provide laundry and food services.
It is recalled that Australian Firm Santos as operator of the Bayu Undan Joint Venture, had made a final investment decision for the US$235 million phases for the 3C infill drilling program at Bayu Undan field in the Timorese sea, offshore Timor-Leste.
