DILI, may 26, 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government of Australia, through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has offered 84 oxygen cylinders to the Autonomous Service of Medicines and Health Equipment (SAMES) to use for the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in Vera’s isolation.
The Director of SAMES Provisioning, Francisco Borges, said that SAMES, in cooperation with partners, concluded that more oxygen cylinders are needed to create better conditions to respond to the increase in the number of covid-19 patients.
“In the last few days, we have received 84 oxygen cylinders together with flow meters, which are intended exclusively for the Vera Cruz isolation room. This week, we will receive another 100, which will be distributed to the various established centers, ”said Francisco Borges, at Kampung Alor, Dili.
He added that SAMES has already hired a company to recharge oxygen when these cylinders are empty.
He also said that SAMES has already communicated with the various municipal health directors to transport the empty oxygen cylinders to the national warehouse and exchange them for new ones.
“Currently, SAMES registers a large use of oxygen due to ventilator-dependent patients in the Vera Cruz isolation room”, he concluded.
Mr. Borges said meanwhile SAMES registered 800 cylinders are in use.
