President ‘LuOlo’ will not travel to Angola next month for CPLP summit: MoFA

DILI, 11 june 2021 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’ would not participate in the Summit of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), which would take place on 17 July, in Angola.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MENK) Adaljiza dos Reis Magno informed that President ‘Lu Olo’ had made it clear that he would not attend the CPLP summit in person due to the current situation in the country.

“The President and I discussed the CPLP Summit. I am here to ask the President’s decision to whether attend the Summit or not and due to the current situation in the country, the President had decided to not participate in the event. So, a special delegation of the State will accompany me to attend the Summit,” Mago told reporters after she met with President ‘Lu Olo’ at the Presidential Palace, in Dili, on Friday.

She said Economic Cooperation had been chosen by Angola as the theme for the CPLP’s 2021 Summit; therefore Timor-Leste was preparing to concentrate its focus on the bilateral cooperation in the economic sector.

“MNEK will focus its concentration on the cooperation between Timor-Leste and other member States of CPLP community on the economic sector,” said Magno.

Magno affirmed that in the CPLP Summit, the eight-member States would discuss the free movement of the citizens between the States of the CPLP community on the economy, education, and work.

She said the President also had approved the 13 Timor-Leste’s new ambassadors who would represent Timor-Leste on diplomatic missions to several different countries, including an ambassador for climate change.

“The lists of the new ambassadors had already been approved, with only awaiting the ceremony of signing the agreement with the destination countries,” said Magno.
