Chinese ambassador says vaccine donation to Timor-Leste ‘A gift of Friendship’

DILI, 14 june 2021 (TATOLI) -China’s ambassador to Timor-Leste, Xiao Jianguo said that his government donation of 100,000 doses of Sinovac Vaccine to Timor-Leste was a reflection of friendship between the two countries.

Xiao Jianguo said, last March when Covid-19 became severe and began to infect people in Timor-Leste, TL Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak wrote a letter to Chinese Premier Li Kegiang for vaccine cooperation, which eventually led to this vaccine assistance.

“As a gift from the Chinese Government to the Government of Timor-Leste, the Sinovac Vaccine donation brings friendship between two countries and peoples, and it is inseparable from the personal attention given to Prime Minister Ruak,” Ambassador Xiao Jianguo commented the launching ceremony of Sinovax at the National University of Timor-Lorosa’e (UNTL) Dili today.

Ambassador emphasized that the WHO approved the Sinovac vaccine for emergency use earlier this month, meaning the vaccine meets international standards for safety, efficacy, and manufacture.

Sinovac had supplied more than 600 million doses of its vaccine at home and abroad by the end of May, including to Brazil, Indonesia, Hungary, Mexico, Thailand, and Turkey.

According to Ambassador Jianguo, The Sinovac has many advantages.

First, it is reliable. This is an inactivated vaccine also Developed in a more traditional method and mature way, more reliable in safety, less likely to cause serious side effects.

Second, it is easy to store, it can be stored in a standard refrigerator at 2-8 degrees Celsius for at least two years, the validity period is longer than other brand vaccines.

Third, effective, especially in the prevention of severe cases and death. WHO says it prevents severe symptoms and hospitalizations in 100X the sample,
