Third-cycle students in Timor-Leste to benefit 90.500 sciences book from KOICA-UNESCO

DILI, 18 june 2021 (TATOLI)-Third-cycle students from grades 7 to grade 9 throughout Timor-Leste will be the benefit  of 90.500 sciences book from Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in collaboration with The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), based in Jakarta.

The interim Executive Secretariat, TL National Commission for UNESCO, Francisco Barreto explained that during the pandemic the students were spending more time at home, so it was very important to keep improving their learning process.

“Due on COVID situation, students just stay at home, for that KOICA and UNESCO Jakarta to provide book support for science which will be distributed to students in the third cycle of class 7 – 9 in all TL territories,” Francisco told TATOLI Journalists at INFORDEP Balide, this friday.

The 90,500 science books consist of 31,480 books for grade 7 students, 30,050 books for grade 8 students and 28,970 books for grade 9 students.

According to data from the Ministry of Education, the total number of third-cycle students throughout Timor-Leste is 90,108, consisting of 31.368 grades 7, 29,901 grade 8 and 28,839 grade 9. KOICA and UNESCO Jakarta are collaborating with UNESCO TL to implement the EBS – Education Broadcasting System program where in addition to providing science books to students, UNESCO in TL has recruited 4 teachers who will later teach through television broadcasts.

“After provided the books, we will see that there are 4 teachers who have been recruited to teach through television, now we are still elaborating on the scripts and materials to be presented, we will also broadcast on television in TL to present via television, the teachers will make presentations during 2 months,” he said.

He added that all the books distributed can be used and according to the schedule that has been set.  The program is implemented in Dili and next week the company will distribute and with monitoring from the Ministry of Education, youth and sport (MEJD) team from UNESCO.
