Plan International distributes 20.500 school materials for the affected children

DILI, 13 july 2021 (TATOLI)- The Non-Governmental Organization Plan International (NGO) distributed school materials  to children affected by floods on april 4, 2021 in the municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro and Dili.

“We have distributed some of school materials packages composed of notebooks, pen, pencils, colored pencils and other learning materials,” The deputy director of Plan International, Fátima Estrela Soares told to TATOLI Agency in her office, at Bairro dos Grilhos, this tuesday.

She added that the program of school material distribution aims to ensure all children are proceeding through the learning process in the shelters and even when they return to their homes.

Ms. Soares explained that Plan International purchased school materials with the anula budget. The school materials are focused on the children, who are victims of disasters.

Estrela Soares said Plan International was distributing 20.500 school material packages to  Aileu and Ainaro municipalities.

“We have recently distributed school materials to Aileu and Ainaro municipalities, hence the distribution activity began after a few months of disaster ,” she underlined.

Plan International has been working in cooperation with the United Nation Emergency Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Ministry of Education and Youth Sport on identifying the numbers of children affected by floods to support school materials.

She stressed that three thousand children in evacuation centers in the municipalities are beneficiaries of the distribution of school material after disasters. Plan International continues implementing mobile library programs for students and other populations, beginning in 2019.

This program is to provide reading materials and help out children and the community to increase their reading skill.
