DILI, 14 July, 2021 (TATOLI)- The Portuguese Language Consultancy (PLC) is proceeding with language skill for Portuguese language for Timorese journalists. This training is offered to A1 and A2 levels.
There are 23 journalists who benefit from this Portuguese training and they are working in different Media composed of some media officers in government media institutions.
The aim of this training is to enhance journalist skill to conduct news coverage and new writing in Portuguese.
“The training started on the first of july and will end in august 2021. The participants come from different media institutions and some of them are working in government institutions. Language training is very specific for journalists and increases capacity for new writing in Portuguese. The Portuguese language trainer, Margarida Henrique told to TATOLI Agency, at the Press Council Office, in Kintál-boot, Dili, this wednesday.
She added that the trainer explained that the participants are composed of journalists, editors and videographers for media institutions from TATOLI Agency, Timor-Leste Radio and Television (RTTL), Timor Post, including other online communication journalists.
Ms. Margarida Henriques said that journalists are most active participating in the training and all of them are doing their work in class and raise some questions for improvement of their English skill.
The trainer said that the training is open to everyone, especially for professionals who work in the media. According to the trainer, the training is intended for journalists to increase their knowledge with Portuguese language skill, and they can be used for new writing.
The journalist of RTTL, Arsénio Soares said that it is most important training to help journalists with news writing skills.
“Although the training starts at the basic level, I am learning well how to use the acronyms [of national and international institutions and organizations] in the news. This Training helps me in journalism as an editor,” he said.
The Interim Coordinator Ceftec, Rafael Freitas, said that the training is based on coordination between the Government of Timor-Leste and The government of Portugal.
“This is the second period of the agreement between the Embassy of Portugal and the Timorese Government through the Secretary of State for Social Communication in 2020 and 2023 to continue conducting training of Portuguese language applied to journalists. The first period training was realized in 2016 and ended in 2019.
Since then, the PLC is continuing to offer Portuguese language for 211 professional journalists from various media and 57 government institutions.
