DILI, 23 july 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s health authorities records four imported cases of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in Timor-Leste.

The cases were made up of one Indonesian and three Timorese citizens who entered Timor-Leste on june 23.

The Minister of Health, Odete Belo informed that so far there hadn’t been any evidence of local transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant in the country.

Belo informed that the four cases of Delta variant were identified on july 14.

“Of the 300 samples of the COVID-19 cases sending for urgent test in the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and immunity, in Melbourne, Australia, indicated that four cases of Delta variant were identified in the country. Of these four cases, the Indonesian citizen was fully vaccinated before being infected with the Delta variant, while the three others patients have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Belo at Dili Convention Centre (CCD), on friday.

Belo said the Indonesian patient had been fully recovered, while three Timorese nationals still remain isolated.

Belo called on communities to follow the COVID-19 regulations and practicing the health protocols recommended by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

“I call on all communities to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, as it is one of the best solutions to fight against the COVID-19 and particularly the Delta variant that had been identified in the country,” said Belo.
