Fundasaun Mahein suggests the government open the border market to avoid illegal activities

DILI, 26 July 2021 (TATOLI)– The Research Coordinator of Fundasaun Mahein (FM), Sancho Xavier said both countries Timor-Leste and Indonesia must tighten the borders for the entry of the bar from Indonesia and suspend the illegal activities to anticipate the surge of the new virus in Timor-Leste.

According to Xavier although the Timorese Government imposes emergency restrictions yet the borders communities are sought to continue to cross the border illegally for economic purposes, thus he suggests that both countries must cooperate to reopened the border market.

“To suspend all the illegal activities, the Government of Timor Leste should cooperate with the Government of Indonesia to reopened the border market,” Xavier told Tatoli at Bairo dos Grilhos Dili today.

at the same time, Xavier also advises the communities living next to the borders to be aware of the Health protocol implemented by the WHO and MoH also the emergency community activity restriction in the borders to avoid the rising of imported cases from Indonesia.

“The FM wish Timor-Leste to have tightened its borders and strictly control by the UPF to avoid the virus from entering to this country, likewise the community living on the borders must also have the awareness that Covid -19 Variant Delta is very dangerous and already killed many people around the world, thus everyone must aware with the Health protocol implemented by the WHO and MoH,” he said.
