DILI, 26 July 2021 (TATOLI) – World Vision in Timor-Leste (WVTL) and Dili Dioceses Commission signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote peace and justice at the community level in Aileu municipality.
The agreement was signed by the Country Director of World Vision, Miguena Shula, and The Commission for Justice and Peace of Dili Dioceses, priest the director of Diámetru Da Conceição Xavier.
Through the signing of the agreement, both World Vision and Dili Bishoprics will responsible to provide information for the people in remote areas to build peace, harmony in their families, and sociality.
“Today we officially held a signing ceremony to strengthen the coordination in the program to be implemented in Aileu municipality. World Vision together with the Committee on Peace and Justice of Dili Dioceses will deliver peace information to the rural community,” The Director on Peace and Justice of Dili Dioceses, Fr. Diámetru Da Conceição Xavier told the journalists at Dili Dioceses room, Lecidere, today.
He added that it is important to involve the church authority, as an adequate program and it will be promoting together. This program is to provide activities of sharing moral information and increasing people’s awareness.
It also helps people to genuinely understand child protection and helps children from various forms of violence in Aileu municipality.
The World Vision program manager, José Mendes said this program will be implemented in Aileu municipality and focus on two sub-districts such as Remexiu and Lekidoe.
“WVTL stands in commitment with Dili Dioceses to implement this program. The Dili Dioceses has currently acquired a program “Peace begins in family” which is associated with this program,” Mendes said.
Mr. Mendes at the same time expects this program will bring a positive impact to the community.
“This program will be targeting 1.700 children in two sub-districts within Aileu municipality. The output of this program will bring the change to children’s lives, especially to increase their attitudes of politeness degree in their family level and the public or community level,” he said.
The WVTL has previously implemented a program called “Hope Channel for Family” the focus is on children’s rights and protection.
According to Mr. Mendes, the program was implemented through the cooperation between the WVTL and Aileu Parish Priest which has been benefited700 households to thoroughly understanding child protection and respect for child right to access education, health, and others.
Likewise, the other impact is helping the community to be thinking creatively to contribute to economic growth in their families.
