DILI, 29 july 2021 (TATOLI)– The Ambassador of the Popular Republic of China Xiao Jinguao visited the office of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports Affairs (SEJD) to invite East Timorese athletes to participate in the Chinese Olympic winter next year.
“My purpose of visit the SEJD is to discuss with the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport (SEJD),Abrão Nokosiku about the Olympic Winter to be held in China-Beijing next year, China wishes to invite the young athletes from Timor-Leste to participate in this tournament,” Ambassador Jianguo commented after meeting with the Secretary of State of SYSA at the Licidere Dili.
Ambassador said he is proud of the development of the sport in Timor-Leste, saying despite Timor-Leste is a small country, but its athletes have always traveled to different countries to join the different Olympics tournament and for such reason, Chine wish to invite Timor-Leste to join the Olympic winter in China Beijing.
“Sport is an exercise to maintain our physical health and improve our health. Therefore, through the Chinese Government, I would like to invite the Timorese young athletes to participate in the Winter Olympics which will be held next year. I hope that SEJD will send qualified participants to get good grades,” Jianguo said.
In the same place, the Secretary of State of the SEJD, Abrao Nokosiku, expressed his appreciation to the Chinese Ambassador for visiting the SEJD to discuss with him sports development in Timor Leste.
“We discuss the development of sports in Timor-Leste and Ambassador Jianguo asked the SEJD to send our athletes to participate in the Winter Olympic which will be held in Beijing next year and my part, I genuinely agree with the invitation,” said Nokosiku.
At the meeting, the SJED SS Nokosiku remained the Ambassador about the weather condition which is different between Timor-Leste and China, adding that Timor-Leste is a tropical country compared to China thus Timor-Leste has never done the winter sport because Timor-Leste is a tropical country yet he also reassure that the SEJD will send the athletes to participate the next year’s tournament.
“We have never done the winter sport because Timor-Leste is a tropical country but we will send our athletes to participate in next year’s Olympic winter,” said.
On this occasion, the Chinese Ambassador also welcomes the request proposal from SEJD and agrees to support Timor-Leste in facilitating technical sports to Timor-Leste as well as the sports infrastructure.
“The Chinese Ambassador welcomes our proposal to facilitate sports technology and sports infrastructure but will discuss this, at the next meeting after consulting the Chinese government,” said Nokosiku.
