INSS: 1.682 workers and 95 companies receive Covid-19 extraordinary subsidies

DILI, 02 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) had made the payment of the Covid-19 extraordinary subsidies, totaling US$718.900,29, as an emergency intervention to support  1.682 workers and 95 companies affected by COVID-19 in Timor-Leste.

There are three types of subsidies, namely subsidies for workers, companies, and small businesses and also subsidies for workers who were out of work due to Covid-19.

The two-week payment of the US$718.900, 29 began on July 7 and was concluded on July 27. The next phase of the payment had been scheduled to begin this week until next month.

“INSS has distributed a total of US$718.900, 29 to 1.682 workers and 95 companies, as the compensation for loss of income during the COVID-19 and lockdown,” the President of the National Institute of Social Security, Longuinhos Armando Leite told reporters at the INSS office, in Dili, today.

Leite said according to the INSS’ official data, around 1.364 small businesses, 4.139 employees, 266 companies, and 1.533 blue-collar workers were eligible to receive the subsidies.

Leite said so far, INSS received around 14.000 documents, saying more than US$45 million had been allocated by the government for the extraordinary subsidies: “Of the budget, up to US$3 million had been distributed to the eligible beneficiaries.”
