SEKOOP-Cuba Embassy sign an agreement  to intensify cooperative areas

DILI, 04 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The State Secretary for Cooperatives (SECOOP) signed the agreement with the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to intensify the cooperation in four areas Agriculture, Fisheries, public transportation, and technology.

The Agreement was signed by the General Director of SEKOOPE, Francisco Xavier, and the Third Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, José Ernesto Díaz Pérez in the office of SECOOP today.

Secretary of State for Cooperatives, Elizário Ferreira said, the agreement is signed between both Timor-Leste and Cuba thus Cuba will provide the support to SEKOOP in the four different areas Agriculture, Fisheries, public transportation, and technological development,” Ferreira said.

According to Ferreira, this collaboration is a technical collaboration and it requires specialists to do these works. 

“The technical cooperation is based on the discussion, therefore it requires the specialists to assists them to become trainers, mobilizers, and the cooperative motivator in the municipal level, to develop cooperative to ensure the financial stability within cooperative activities.

The agreement also outlined important points about cooperative exchange study, therefore both parts will learn from each other on how to develop the cooperative in Timor-Leste to contribute to the economic growth of the country and reduce the number of unemployed.

In 2020 SEKOOP has successfully established 62 production cooperatives including 22 credit unions.

33 Administrative posts out of 67 have not yet established the cooperative, therefore SEKOOP will continue to develop the existing cooperatives and will establish the cooperatives in 31 in the municipalities that had not yet been established the cooperatives.
