Around 61.38% of school teachers in Dili fully vaccinated

DILI, 05 august 2021 (TATOLI)— Dili Municipality Education Director (SEMD), Duarte Bragansa informed that 61.38 percent of schools teachers in Dili, consisting of elementary, high schools, and vocational-technical schools (ESTV) had been fully vaccinated.

Of the 3.153 school teachers in Dili, 61.38 percent represents a total of 1.934 school teachers, who had received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccines, while 38.62 percent, representing 1.219 teachers hadn’t received their jabs.

Braganza said teaching and learning activities of many schools had been resumed following the decision of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport (SEJD): So, for those schools whose teachers had been fully vaccinated are allowed to resume face-to-face learning on July 19, 2021.”

“We haven’t received any report from 55 schools in Dili regarding the number of their vaccinated teachers. Thus, I am sure the teaching and learning process in these 55 schools hadn’t been resumed,” Braganza told TATOLI, in Dili, today.

He said based on the circular letter issued by MEJD, all teachers and students must get vaccinated, saying vaccination is one of the requirements to reopen the schools.

Braganza called on schools whose teachers had not been vaccinated to take their jabs to resume the classes.

“For the fully vaccinated teachers are permitted to teach, but those who haven’t vaccinated will have no permission to teach the students. Therefore, I urged those teachers to get the vaccine as soon as possible to not abandon their students,” said Braganza.

He said each school will also identify students who are over 18 to receive the vaccines.
