Timor-Leste receives another batch of Astrazeneca Vaccine from Australia

DILI, 11 august 2021 (TATOLI)– The Australian government through the Australian Embassy in Timor Leste handed over 300,000 Astra Zenaca vaccines to the Government of Timor-Leste.

The donation of Vaccine was directly handed over by the Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Peter Robert to the Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak at SAMES Kampung Alor Dili.

Australian Ambassador Peter Robert said Australia is committed to helping Timor-Leste in dealing with Covid-19.

“Australia already helped around 700,000 doses of Astrazenaca vaccines that have been donated to Timor Leste during this time,” Robert told reporters in SAMES Kampung Alor recent Wednesday.

Ambassador Robert added that As a neighbor country that has had bilateral cooperation for a long time, Australia is always in commitment to support Timor-Leste at anytime. 

“Australia is helping Timor Leste with sincerity because we see this Covid-19 as a world pandemic, therefore as neighboring countries, we must help each other to eliminate the virus,” He said.

Prime Minister of Timor-Leste, Taur Matan Ruak appreciates the supports and thanked the Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison for always supporting Timor Leste in the time of challenge.

“We hope that the vaccine will cover the remainder population that has not been receiving the vaccine. Our target is that all of Timor Leste’s population should be vaccinated to prevent deaths, since more than 43% of the eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine,” said Prime Minister Ruak,” PM said.

Prime Minister Ruak urges all the adults to be vaccinated immediately to reach 70% of vaccine nationally for the country to return to the new normal life.

On this occasion, 300,000 doses of Astrazenaca were directly distributed to the municipalities of Aileu and Manatutu to further boost the number of people vaccinated against this terrible virus, including in rural and remote areas.
