JICA and BTL sign agreement for water supply

Dili, 17 august 2021 (TATOLI)- The Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) and Bee Timor-Leste (BTL) signed an agreement to support the quality of water supply.

The president of Bee Timor-Leste, Carlos Peloi dos Reis said the agreement aims to strengthen Bee Timor-Leste’s resources to ensure constant hand washing under the covid-19 pandemic.

“We are signing an agreement with our friends at JICA to supply the quality of water. They make medicines and pipes available to improve the channeling, among others”, The BTL president, Carlos Peloi dos Reis, told TATOLI, in Caicoli.

Mr. Reis said that the budget provided for the clean water supply amounting 730 thousand US dollars which is equivalent to the materials used for supplying the water.

JICA representative in Timor-Leste, Ko Goto said that JICA provides human resources and experts to improve water distribution, human resources management, consumer management, maintenance, and operation of equipment such as pipes and meters.

Mr. Goto said that JICA and BTL have already signed the first agreement to offer training for BTL’s human resources in Japan.

“Cooperation between the Government of Japan and Timor-Leste began 20 years ago. JICA has been technically supporting Timor-Leste, including BTL in Timor-Leste. The project consolidates bilateral friendship”, he concluded.
