COVID-19 update: TL records two more deaths, 357 infections

DILI, 27 august 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste, today, reports two more deaths, 357 new cases, 185 recoveries, and the active cases were 4.373.

Of the new cases, 228 were detected in Dili, while the rest were identified in the municipalities, including 29 in Covalima, 25 in Viqueque, 24 in Baucau, 18 in Ainaro, nine in Lautem, eight each in Liquica and Manufahi, five in Bobonaro, and three in Manatuto.

The spokesperson of SIJK, Dr. Rui Maria de Araujo said 47 percent of today’s cases were symptomatic.

He said among the cases, 246 were between the ages of 12 and 59, including 94 cases under 20 and 17 elderly persons over 60. These new cases are made up of 188 men and 169 women.

Araujo informed that 86 of Covid-19 cases had been admitted to Vera Cruz Isolation Center for intensive treatment, with 23 people in critical condition, three of whom required ventilation.

In the last 24 hours, the National Health Laboratory (LNS) has performed 938 PCR tests, including 73 sentinel surveillance tests, 239 through contact tracing, 337 via random screening, 254 were carried out following the request for travel authorization out of capital Dili, nine for international travel authorization, and 26 in quarantines.

Today, SIJK registered two more deaths in Timor-Leste.

The first deceased was a man in his late 70s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 24 and admitted to the Vera Cruz Isolation Center on the same day. He passed away last night at around 07.10.pm local time.

Another deceased was a man in his late 50s, who was diagnosed with Covid-19 on august 21 and admitted to the Lahane Hospital on the same day. He passed away last night at around 07.pm local time.

The evolution of the COVID-19 in Timor-Leste, the incidence rate of coronavirus is, on average, in the last week, of 24.5 per 100 thousand inhabitants, while in Dili 61.2, Covalima 32.0, Baucau 21.9, Manufahi 14.3, Ainaro 11.3, Manatuto 10.4, Viqueque 10.1, and Bobonaro 5.9.

The SIJK kept calling on communities to practice the health and safety guidelines recommended by the Ministry of Health and the WHO to continue combating the spread of the virus as the SIJK’s records showed cases are again mounted in Dili, Ermera, and several municipalities.

Health authorities had warned that Delta variant have already spread in the communities, calling on citizens over 18 to get vaccinated: “Vaccination is the only way to combat the Covid-19.”

There has been a total of 15.960 lab-confirmed cases of the virus in Timor-Leste, with 11.529 recoveries, active cases were 4.373 and 58 deaths, according to SIJK’s data.

In Timor-Leste, of the 754.864 eligible groups, 50.9 percent had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, of which 25.4 percent have also received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
