DILI, 06 august 2021 (TATOLI) – The Government, through the Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs (MKAE) and the Ministry of State Administration (MAE), will work together to accelerate the data verification of the households in need to receive staple food and other essential items from the government during the lockdown.

MKAE was assigned responsibility through a decision by the Council of Ministers to carry out the Covid19 Emergency Food Relief Distribution to the most households in need during the mandatory confinement.

“We are trying to work closely with the relevant ministries, particularly MAE, to verify the data of those vulnerable families who need assistance during this difficult time,” Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral told reporters at the Ministry of Finance, in Dili, today.

Previously, MKAE through the National Logistics Center (NLC) distributed 2.000 tons of rice to the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI) to be distributed to the needy families in Dili during the lockdown.

“We still have rice at our warehouse and a week ago MKAE through CLN distributed 2,000 tons of rice to MSSI. We need to verify the data from MAE to decide which families are entitled to receive the food in this difficult time,” said Amaral.

To ensure vulnerable communities get food during the lockdown, and preventing hunger from happening in Timor-Leste, the government must prepare food beforehand in the warehouses, he said.
