Australia sends eight Australian medical specialists to help Timor-Leste on COVID-19 and Emergency

DILI, 8 september, 2021 (TATOLI)-Australia sends eight Australian medical specialists to work together with the Ministry of Health to help Timor Leste tackle a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases.

The eight members of the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) arrived at Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Dili today at 11:30 TLH with Qantas Airlines. 

The Representative of Prime Minister, Daninna Coelho said in her remark that, Australia’s support of these specialists is highly required, to work together with Timorese professional health workers since the number of covid-19 continued to increase every day.

“The help from Australia is required particularly to help the Timorese Profesional Health workers who have to care for the covid-19 patients in Vera Cruz and Lahane Isolation Center,” Daninha commented at Nicolau Lobato International Airport Dili today.

At the same place, Australia’s Ambassador, Peter Roberts said that It is required for friends and neighbors to cooperate for this very serious condition in Timor Leste.

I am glad to have a health team from Australia to work with Timorese professional health workers to help covid-19 patients.

I thanked the Timorese health workers for working tirelessly since then to help covid-19 patients under isolation centers.

The General Director of Health Service, Odete da Silva Viegas said that the Timor-Leste government through the Ministry of Health is the most needed help from the neighboring country in the critical situation.

“We welcome the team and hoping that your presence can bring the changes for the Timorese health system to take care of covid-19 patients, help the patients recover from disease, and reduce the number of fatalities,” Viegas said.

The eight Australian medical specialists will work in Lahane and Vera Cruz isolation centers and they will be working in Dili for 28 days.
