A new telecommunications service provider to operate in TL

DILI, 16 september 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste is going to have another telecommunications service provider (TSP), known as Ceslink which was initiated by the Timorese, Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), The Minister of MTC José Agustinho da Silva said.

A fourth operator, Ceslink has applied to the government for a license to become a telecom operator since 2019.

“Ceslink has met basic administrative, technical and legal requirements to start its operation in Timor-Leste based on the decree-law no.15/2012, article 30, which define all requirements that a TSP has to fulfill before carrying out its operation,” said Silva after meeting Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak at his residence in Dili.

“During the meeting, I informed Prime Minister that Ceslink had fulfilled the requirement to be operated in Timor-Leste. Thus, they will receive the certificate of the Telecommunications License Register because National Communications Authority (ANC) had assessed and approved all essential documents. I have requested His Excellency, Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to hand over the certificate to Ceslink,” he said.

Silva said Ceslink was established by Timorese young people, saying these young men have good experience in the area of telecommunications.

“First of all, the government’s treatments to all TSP companies are equal.  The certificate of the Telecommunications License Register was one of the three phases the Ceslink has to fulfill to be operated in Timor-Leste. So, for the next steps, Ceslink must meet the spectrum license and the license of the numbers of telecommunication services,” he said.

He said Ceslink had to fulfill the requirements of the next steps to start its operation.

Apart from Ceslink, Timor-Leste’s new Telecommunication operator, currently, three TSPs are in operation – Timor Telecom, Telemor, and Telkomsel.
