UN SEC GEN: Peace is the only option to repair the broken world

DILI, 21 september, 2021 (TATOLI) –United Nations (UN) General Secretary, António Guterres marks the Forty International Day of Peace by urging all nations to choose peace as the only option to repair the broken world.

Addressing the International Day of Peace, the UN SecGen Gutteres said the International day of peace comes at a time when humanity is in crisis. 

COVID‑19 has claimed more than 4 million lives and counting, The pandemic has devastated domestic and national economies. Conflict is getting out of control. Inequality and poverty are increasing. The world is facing an emergency because the planet is in climate change.

Every crisis threatens to tear humanity apart at a time when everyone needs solidarity more than ever. The world faces a difficult choice: peace or eternal danger.

“We must choose peace. This is the only option to repair our broken world,” Said Guterres in statement access by TATOLI from the UN official site.

Guterres at the same time calls on all the fighters around the world to lay down their arms, celebrate the day of a global ceasefire, and end this pandemic to reduce inequality and end the poverty: “We call on fighters around the world to lay down their arms and celebrate the day of a global ceasefire. We need to focus on fighting humanity’s common enemy, COVID‑19, We need solidarity to end this pandemic, quickly deliver life-saving vaccines and treatments, and support countries on the long road to future recovery. We need to intensify our work to reduce inequality and end poverty,”

He calls on all the nation’s attention to put the action to heal the planet and make the transition to a greenhouse economy: We need a bold global action plan to heal our planet and make the transition to a green economy. Most importantly, need to renew trust in each other. Peace and progress depend on coming together as a human family, united in a commitment to building a better and brighter world,”

“We cannot allow our future to be undermined by the acid of hatred, division, conflict, and mistrust,” 

“It’s time to rebuild our world. Make peace with nature and others. Lift each other, not bring each other down. And to live, finally, in the true promise and potential of humanity,”

“On this International Day of Peace, let’s recommit to one another. Let’s recommit to the best of humanity,” he pleaded.
