DILI, 04 october 2021 ( TATOLI) – Secretary of State for Social Protection (SSSP) Joagim Gusmao informed that there is still 135 household which declared as the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Timor – Leste (TL) due to the massive flood last April 04.
“We have verified the data regarding IDPs, there are 135 households who are still in IDPs due to their houses washed away after torrential rainfall caused flooding in Dili last April 4,” Gusmao told reporters at the Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak’s residence, Farol, Dili today.
Gusmão declares, around 69 households wish to move out to their municipalities while the other 68 are remaining in IDPs: “The SSSP had prepared the Construction materials and transportations before transporting them to their municipalities however other 68 households wish to maintain in IDPs while waiting for the new houses that have been promised by the Government,”
Previously, the government through the Ministry of Justice had identified the land in Hera, Taibessi, and Tibar to build the houses for the April 4 flood victims, which is according to plan the houses will be constructed in the short term.
Base on the official data report, almost all victims in IDPs are from Baucau municipality, Manufahi, and Oekusi.
