DILI, 5 october 2021, (TATOLI)- Plan International in Timor-Leste (PITL) promotes Timorese girls to be an ambassador for eliminating any acts of violence that destroy children’s physical and mentally.

The Country Director of PITL, Diliana Ximenes said this activity aims to promote girls to be ambassadors and offer the opportunity for the young girl to contribute to the fight against a form of domestic violence against girls across the country.

“PLTL is in commitment to work with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and Inclusion (MSSI) and the Commission of Child Protection (CCP) to eliminate any form of violence against girls,” Diliana Ximenes told reporters in João Paul II, this Monday.

According to Ximenes, the one factor that contributes to the increase in the number of Early Marriage is the children misused of social media: “It indicates the negative impact due to lack of responsibility and children became the victim and at the same time it confuses their mind to access to proper education,”

at the same time, First Lady, Cidália Lopes Mozinhu Guterres, said that the government has the responsibility to cooperate with development partners to eliminate violence against girls in Timor-Leste, saying The United Nations has officially declared October 11 as the international day for a girl, therefore, Timor-Leste must ensure all the girls are living in freedom without any intimidation, violence, and acts that commit to destroying their existence.

“I admire the hard work of PITL in providing the advocacy campaign to promote the girl involved in the end the violence against girls,” Ms. Guterres said.

Advocacy is provided to share the information to children about the proper use of social media for the positive advantages, at the same time, prevent negative aspects that can destroy the girl’s personality and even destroy their future.

The Commissary of Child Rights, Dinora Grandehneria said that to eliminate violence, sexual abuse, early marriage issues in Timor-Leste required the contribution and involvement of all sectors and relevant entities to help parents and community to bring their children out from any form of violence: “It requires the support from National Communication Authority (NCA) to control the Social Media. To avoid children, access for negative items contribute for their future destruction,” she said.

“I strongly recommended to the Timor-Leste National Parliament to ensure the children protection laws must be approved to help protect the children. Advocacy is most important to increase every one knowledge to avoid acts that destroy the childhood and even their future,”she added
