DILI, 08 october 2021 (TATOLI) – President of the Municipality Authority of Dili (PMAD), Guilhermina Filomena Saldanha, today met with Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak to discuss the capital city cleanup program.

“In today’s meeting, Prime Minister and I discuss the Dili cleanup program. So, PMAD would coordinate with the administrators of the five administrative posts (Cristo Rei, Dom Aleixo, Nain Feto, Vera Cruz, and Autauro) to mobilize the communities to clean up our Capital city,” Saldanha told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Ruak, in Dili, today.

As the population of the city increase, improving rubbish and waste management is becoming an urgent issue and it requires the contribution of all entities, including ordinary citizens, said Saldanha.

“To keep Dili clean, I call on all citizens who are from municipalities and those who are living in Dili to give your contribution by putting your rubbish in the right bin. As good citizens, we shouldn’t through the rubbish in public places and have a responsibility to give our contribution to clean up our neighborhoods and villages,” she said.

Despite the commitment of many volunteer groups to keep cleaning up the beaches and many areas in Dili, communities continue disposing of their rubbish and waste inappropriately.

To keep the capital clean, in 2020, the MP from Democratic Party suggested the government creating rigorous rules and regulations to control and fine those who always commit improper rubbish disposal in capital Dili.

Last month, Covalima’s authorities introduced a new regulation to control and keep Covalima’s town clean by fining those who commit improper rubbish disposal in the area of Covlima’s town from US$ 25 to US$ 50.
