DILI, 19 october 2021 ( TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the Arab Saharawi Democratic Republic to Timor-Leste, Boibait Malainin Boibuat, appreciates the National Parliament(NP) for the approval of the draft resolution regarding the constitution of a parliamentary group to monitor the issue of Western Sahara.
“On behalf of the government of the Arab Republic of Saharawi and the Saravi people, I would like to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to the National Parliament of Timor-Leste for its position regarding the long march towards self-determination of our people,” said Boibat Malainin to TATOLI in Farol Dili.
According to Ambassador, Boibuat, the decision made by the PN demonstrates great solidarity and commitment of every political party in the Parliament and Timorese people towards the struggle of the Sahrawi people for the exercise of their right to self-determination.
“The resolution is important, it expresses the consensus of the People and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, for Western Sahara in the struggle for liberation, self-determination, and independence”
The Resolution project was approved by the PN with 51 votes in favor, 0 against, and 0 abstentions.
The Resolution text underlined, Timorese parliamentarians welcomed the effort of the current Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) Antonio Guterres to keep all peacekeeping operations under close monitoring including the (United Nations mission for the referendum in Western Sahara).
Timorese parliamentarians also appealed to the UN Security Council to bend MINURSO: “As soon as possible a mandate to monitor human rights in the Sahara Occidental refers to the text”
The document asks Morocco and the Polisario Front to resume negotiations in good faith and without prior conditions in the political process.
Furthermore, it asks the government of Morocco, the Polisario Front, Algeria, and Mauritania to unite in clear objectivity to reach a just, lasting, mutually acceptable political solution that allows for a referendum to be held in Western Sahara based on the principles and objectives of the charter of the United Nations.
