DILI, 20 october 2021 (TATOLI) – The direct involvement of the members of the government in the Covid-19 vaccination campaign is extended until october 30.
Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Fidelis Manuel Leite Magalhães informed that the vaccination campaign was scheduled to conclude on october 23, however, the Council of Ministers had extended it to october 30 adding that the seven days extension aimed to accelerate the vaccination campaign to reach more people with the vaccination in the municipalities.
He said so far Timor-Leste has seen a significant increase in the vaccination rate due to the direct involvement of the government members: “After the two-week involvement of the government members, I can say that the vaccinate rate was drastically increased in the recent week.”
As of wednesday (20/10), About 69 percent of the country’s eligible population (754.864) have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, of which 44.5 percent had been fully vaccinated, according to the SIJK’s data.
Magalhães said the involvement of the government members in the acceleration of the vaccination campaign was vital to increase the vaccination rate in certain municipalities.
According to today’s figure of the Integrated Crisis Management Center (SIJK), Ermera municipality has the lowest percentage of the population fully vaccinated against COVID-19. As of Wednesday (20/10), only 17.6 percent of its eligible citizens had been fully vaccinated while Ainaro was 19.4 percent and Bobonaro was 28.9 percent.
In contrast, Dili has the highest percentage of its population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as of Wednesday (20/10) 71.8 percent of its eligible citizens were fully vaccinated, followed by Covalima municipality with 54.1 percent and Viqueque was 52.8 percent, according to the SIJK COVID-19 vaccine distribution and administration data tracker.
