IOM Hands over TD&B Scanner Machines to Minister of Interior of Timor-Leste

DILI, 25 october, 2021 (TATOLI) – International Organization for Migration (IOM) handed over three verified and Bearer (TD & B) scanner machines to the Minister of Interior to ensure the effectiveness of border control for illegal passing to the country.

The IOM Chief of Mission in Timor- Leste, Ms. Aishath Ihma Shareef said The verified TD&B scanner machines are an automated secondary inspection tool designed to support immigration officials at points of entry in document examination and identify document verification.

 ” IOM will continue to support the government in strengthening the border management system in Timor-Leste,” The IOM Chief of Mission in Timor- Leste, Ms. Aishath Ihma Shareef informed the reporters at Novo Turismo Hotel, on 25 October, this Monday.

The Vice Minister of Interior, Antonio Armindo appreciates the huge efforts of development partner on providing the Timor-Leste government with machines on travel document management system to ensure all people safety in traveling and crossing the border through the entry points, saying this support is to modernize the working management system in the borderlines, especially immigration service mainly for beneficiaries.

“I have received two automatic mechanics from IOM to install in essential entranced points especially in entrance gate among Timor-Leste and Indonesia country in Mota- Ain, DILI international Airport and Okusse RAEO. This border management system is to ensure the effective working in controlling the illegal passing,” He said.

This data system has been used by 14 countries in the ASEAN region composed of Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand among others.

The data system is funded and provided by the Government of Australia and Canada managed by the International Organization for Immigration in Timor-Leste (IOM).

It is known that since 2021 migration department records more than 100 illegally passing in borders and 50 persons have complied on low enforcement to pay the tax and others are not concluded the notification process.
