DILI, 10 November 2021 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste delegation, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEC), Adaljiza Magno, participated in the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) in the city of Glasgow, Scotland, under the presidency of the United Kingdom.
“The minister, accompanied by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Demétrio Amaral, and the Secretary for Civil Protection, Joaquim Gusmão, participated in the COP26 panel under the theme “Partnerships for the Resilience of Islands: Sharing Solutions in the Great Ocean States”, which had the participation of the special guest, the former President of the United States of America, Barack Obama”, refers a statement addressed to Tatoli.
According to the document, on the sidelines of the ceremony, the government official continued to participate in the information session of the Ministers of Least Developed Countries (LDC) on the status of negotiations, crisis issues and the priorities of the group at COP26 and was appointed to lead the negotiation on destruction on behalf of LDCs.
According to the statement, the government official also held a bilateral meeting with Portugal’s special envoy for climate issues, Alexandre Leitão.
“We discussed cooperation between Timor-Leste and Portugal in the area of climate change and the oceans”, the statement said.
It is said that Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Adalzija Magno participated, as Timorese minister and on behalf of LDCs, in the Ministerial Consultation on the destruction, which was led by the Minister of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development of Luxembourg, Carole Dieschbourg, and the Minister of Housing, Jamaica’s Urban Renewal, Environment and Climate Change, Pearnel Charles Jr.
“The meeting was set to make a high-level political commitment, in ministerial terms, on issues related to damages,” said the minister in the statement.
