Cuba- SSYS, and UNTL signed MoU to support the Department of Sport in UNTL

DILI, 11 november 2021 ( TATOLI)-The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Timor – Leste together with the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SSYS) and the National University of Timor Loro Sae ( UNTL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of sports.

Consul & Third Secretary of Embassy of The Republic of Cuba to Timor – Leste Lic. Jose Ernesto Diaz Perez informed that the Cuban Government has been waiting for cooperation in the field of sports for a long time but today the Cuban government was very proud because the cooperation of sports has been done.

“With the signing of this MoU The Cuban government will send sports teachers from Cuba to strengthen the sports at UNTL to teach the students in the sports department academically,” Perez told reporters in SSYS ‘s office, Lesidere Dili today.

Perez believes that sports development in Timor – Leste will develop rapidly like in Cuba and other countries because many youth and students have talent in the sports area and it needs to be developed through training and theoretical sports.

Cuba greatly appreciates the policy of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports for this initiative.

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports Abrao Saldanha ” Nokosiku” said, that the collaboration between Cuba and UNTL was carried out to facilitate them in developing the sports in Timor-Leste.

“We want to contract sports teachers from Cuba because sports in Cuba have been very developed therefore the signing of this MoU aims to bring sports teachers from Cuba to teach students to share their experiences in UNTL,” said Nokosiku

Nokosiku added that it is very important to develop sports in Timor – Leste to lead the people of Timor – Leste in doing the sports exercises to be physically healthy and free from disease.

“We do not think about developing all types of sports in Timor – Leste to become champions in national and international competitions but We must think about health first because with sports We will have good health and be free from any disease,” He said.

Rector of UNTL Joao Martins said UNTL is very grateful to SSYS, for facilitating UNTL to send professional sports lecturers from Cuba to strengthen the sports department in UNTL since the sports lecture is very minimum in the refer university.

SSYS in the MoU contracted 4 sports experts from Cuba to teach the sports in UNTL. Four Lecturers from Cuba will come shortly.

SSYS also allocated $187,000 to buy sports practice facilities and also will pay the four lecturers from Cuba with a contract duration of 1 year.
