DILI, 17 november 2021 ( TATOLI) – The Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL) and the Commission of Anti-Corruption (CAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to prevent corruption in Timor-Leste.
“PNTL and CAC have the long time cooperation in the prevention of corruption within the country, but the signing of this MoU just realized now to strengthen the cooperation in the future. We must work together to prevent the acts of corruption in Timor – Leste because corruption is an act that deprives the state and the population of Timor – Leste’s money for the personal interest and destroys the nation development,” The PNTL Commissioner, Faustino da Costa informed the media at the PNTL headquarter Comoro Dili, today.
da Costa added that with this agreement all indications of corruption committed by the members of the government will be followed up to ensure the safeness of the state finances.
“All acts of corruption committed by the members of the government including members of the PNTL will be investigated and if proven guilty they will be arrested under the Timor – Leste’s law,” said da Costa.
CAC Commissioner Sergio Hornai said the purpose of the agreement is to show that the two institutions have the initiative to work together in dealing with corruption in Timor – Leste.
“The purpose of signing of the MoU is to strengthen the cooperation that has been carried out by the PNTL and CAC regarding the intelligence information, criminal investigations toward this action,” said Hornay.
Hornai added that with this MoU, CAC and PNTL will work together to overcome all crimes such as organized crime, ordinary crime, tax evasion, acts of corruption, human trafficking, and drug actors.
