UNFPA-SSYS offers Reproductive Health training for 40 young people from 11 municipalities

DILI, 22 november, 2021 (TATOLI)- The State of Secretary Youth and Sport (SSYS) and United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA) offer Reproductive Health Training for 40 young people in 11 municipalities.

The Director of UNFPA, Ronny Lindstrom in his speech said that the purpose of this training activity was to provide a complete understanding of Reproductive Health for 40 young people throughout the country.

“Youth must attend in-depth reproductive health training that is given in-depth to avoid premature mergers and help young people to live healthy lives and protect young people from all diseases that can endanger their lives,” UNFPA Director Ronny Indstrom told reporters. in the ETDA meeting room, 22 November, in Hudi Laran Dili.

João Dos Santos, Director General of Cooperatives, State Secretariat for Youth and Sports, said the Timor Leste government is committed to addressing healthy education policies and helping young people understand reproductive health to avoid early marriage and underage pregnancies.

Mr. Santos added that this training is beneficial for the younger generation to be able to appreciate their bodies and change their mentality to contribute to a positive life. This training is also to emphasize sexual and reproductive health and not to risk life and not to contribute to dangerous infectious diseases such as HIV.

On the same occasion, the Head of the Catholic Youth Commission, Pdt. João Soares said that this training is to bring knowledge for young people to connect with religious, ethnic, moral, socio-cultural, and educational aspects.

According to Fr., Soares young people must take part in decision-making and decisions must reflect positive things rather than decisions that pose risks to people’s lives, therefore he hopes this training can change the lives of young people.

A trainee Juliana Pinto from the Comoro Training Center-aged 29, it is hoped that this training will provide sufficient information about Reproductive Health to be shared with other young people at the Community level.

This training was attended by 40 youths from 11 municipalities including RAEO Oecusse. This training will be held for 9 days, starting on November 22 to November 31, 2021.
