DILI, 25 november 2021 (TATOLI) – Investment and Export Promotion Agency (TradeInvest, I.P) had received more than 10 requests from foreign investors via email, expressing their interest to invest in the petroleum sector following Timor-Leste’s government-business forum on the petroleum sector in Expo 2020 Dubai.

“After returning from Expo 2020 Dubai, I have received more than 10 emails from foreign investors. Thus, promoting Timor-Leste’s petroleum sector is important to attract more investors into the country. I believe that the National Petroleum and Minerals Authority (ANPM) received more emails than I do. Sometimes investors come to TrandeInvest first then they will go to ANPM and vice versa,” the Executive Director of TradeInvest, Arcanjo da Silva told reporters at the Meeting Hall of TrandeInvest, in Dili, on Tuesday.

He said TradeInvest supported ANPM during the business forum on the petroleum sector in Expo 2020 Dubai.

“More than 50 foreign investors were present at the forum, which was officially opened by Minister of Petroleum and Minerals (MoPM), Víctor da Conceição Soares.

At the forum, ANPM presented Timor-Leste’s 18 new sites for oil and gas exploration. These 18 blocks comprised of seven on the mainland and 11 in Timorese waters: “TradeInvest also shared with investors regarding investment process in Timor-Leste. In addition, SERVE also contributed to informing the investors on how to register their companies in the country.”

TradeInvest would accompany Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs, Joaquim Amaral to organize another business forum on non-petroleum sectors in Dubai.

“We should not solely rely on the petroleum sector. We need to diversify our economy by promoting our non-petroleum sector. Therefore, it is important for the team to return to Dubai to organize the business forum on the non-petroleum sector, in february 2022. Definitely, more potential investors from different sectors (agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, fiber optic, and so on) would be invited to attend the forum,” he emphasized.
