DILI, 7 december 2021 (TATOLI) – President of the Timor-Leste Coffee Association (ACT), Evangelino Monteiro Soares said, ACT is working with partner Número Uno from Australia to test Arabica coffee to ensure its quality for export.
“There are three types of Arabica coffee: honey, washed, and natural. Partner Número Uno has tested [this type of coffee] in Australia. The results are positive in terms of quality,” Soares told Tatoli in Fatuhada Dili.
According to Soares, the coffee samples were sent to Australia and partners to be tested for the quality of the coffee.
Soares also explained that arabica coffee comes from the municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro, Bobonaro, Ermera, Liquiçá, Manufahi, Manatuto, and Oé-Cusse, adding that this type of coffee has also been exported by companies Timor Global, Alter Trade Timor, Cooperativa and Café Timor between other.
Soares explained that the coffee trial aims to motivate producers to increase the number of their products domestically.
The tests were carried out with the support of the embassies of China, Australia, and Portugal.
