DILI, 16 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The South Korean Embassy in Timor-Leste today handed over taekwondo training equipment to the Timor-Leste FALINTIL Defense Forces (F-FDTL) to develop military self-defense training.

“Today we sent 24 boxes of taekwondo training equipment,” said Korean Ambassador Kim Jeong-ho on the sidelines of the handover ceremony at the Headquarters in Fatuhada, Dili.

Ambassador Kim Jeong-ho added that the Korean government will send, next year – perhaps, right at the start – 500 taekwondo uniforms for F-FDTL.

The F-FDTL Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Lere Anan Timur, thanked the South Korean Government for its assistance, which aims to develop military self-defense training.

“We thank the South Korean Executive for its assistance. The assistance referred to is the same as that which has been provided by other friendly countries, such as China, Australia, Portugal, and others whose military cooperation is with us,” he said.

The Lieutenant-General added that, as a sovereign country, Timor-Leste must develop instead of depending on assistance provided by other countries.

“Our government must provide good conditions for F-FDTL. As a commander, my concern is about the professionalism and credibility of the armed forces. The executive has the right and obligation to facilitate adequate conditions for our soldiers,” he said.
