91 candidates of Timorese workers to depart for South Korea in January

DILI, 20 december 2021 (TATOLI) – The National Directorate of Foreign Employment, (DNEE) of the Secretary of State for Training and Employment (SEFOPE) and the Human Resource Development (HRD) of South Korea, Jooyun Yang, held a meeting with the 91 candidates of Timorese workers before departing to South Korea on 14 january 2022.

At the meeting, the Director of DNEE of SEFOPE, Filomeno Soares said that the main objective of the meeting is to inform the 91 candidates about the criteria and the amount of money they need to bring with them because candidates are required to fulfill all the requirements as soon as possible before leaving for South Korea.

“The criteria for the candidates include the Covid-19 Vaccination Record Card, medical certificate, PCR test result of Covid-19: “In addition, these candidates will be under mandatory quarantine for 24 hours in the country, and they will also require to stay in quarantine for 10 days before commencing their work in South Korea,” said Soares.

Soares called on the candidates to take care of their health, saying before their departure, the authorities would conduct another medical test, if they are sick or have any diseases then their flight would be canceled: “When they arrived in South Korea, the Korean Authorities would also conduct another medical test, and again if they have diseases then they would be deported to Timor-Leste.”

Of the 91 workers, 56 would be working in fisheries and 35 in factories. These workers will be leaving for South Korea on 14 january 2022.

Since 2009, SEFOPE had sent more than 3.500 Timorese workers to work in South Korea in the fisheries, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors.
