PM urges SSAC to expand the value of Tais

DILI, 21 December, 2021 (TATOLI)-Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak urged the Secretary of State of Art and Culture (SSAC) to find a real strategy to expand the value of Tais for the new generation in the coming year.

PM Taur said Timor-Leste TAIS has been announced by UNESCO as an intangible Cultural Heritage, that can demonstrate the original identity of Timor-Leste to the International Community.

“Tais is important material that is normally used for the cultural ceremony and it has the cultural value,” PM, Taur Matan Ruak said in his remark, at Suai Room, Timor-Plaza, Dili.

adding that the mechanism will also provide training for young women to learn how to produce Tais.

“To value the Tais, the young generation needs to wear Tais in any ceremony,” said Caldas.

Caldas said several partners including USAID, Timor Aids, and Alola Foundation have been offering the training to the women’s group to develop and promote the sustainable value of Tais.

Caldas declared that SSAC is also provided financial support to women groups across 12 municipalities including Oe-Cusse RAEOA, thus in the 2022 General State Budget, SSAC has set up $60.000 to support the women groups.

It is known that UNESCO not only recognized Tais Timor-Leste as Cultural Heritage but also provided financial support totaling $265.895 thousand for the safeguarding of Immaterial and cultural heritage namely Tais, where the fund will be used for three years 2022 to 2025.
