DILI, 5 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The Executive Director of the Guido Valadares, National Hospital (HNGV), Alito Soares informed that currently, the hospital is running out of spaces to accumulate new patients for hospitalization.
“HNGV is the only hospital in Timor-Leste to provide primary and secondary treatment for patients across the country. However, it has no more spaces to accommodate the new patients who need hospitalization. Despite the 71 additional beds, this hospital currently has no more rooms and beds to accommodate more hospitalized patients. HNGV had a total of 350 beds, including the additional 71 beds,” Soares told reporters at his office, in Dili, wednesday.
The 350 beds were made up of 21 beds for the emergency room, 28 for men, 28 for women, 28 for hospitalization of male patients after surgery, 27 for hospitalization of female patients after surgery, 30 for NIFAS, 35 for maternity room, 43 for perinatology, 32 for Pediatric Room A, 12 for Pediatric Room B, 19 for the VIP room, six for ICU room, 14 for Extra Room A, 14 for Extra Room B, and 13 rooms for Pulmonology.
Since january 2021, the emergency room attended more than 250 patients every day, of which 40 to 50 patients required hospitalization.
“Yesterday, more than 60 patients were hospitalized. Currently, 750 patients are hospitalized in this hospital. The majority of these patients are hospitalized due to dengue. Therefore, the 350 beds alone could not accommodate all these patients. Thus, every two patients are obliged to use a bed,” he said.
HNGV had been coordinating with the nursing department, quality control department, clinics, and all heads of department to find solutions for the problem.
In addition, HNGV also had been coordinating with the Dili Municipal Health Services to facilitate hospitalized patients with more extra rooms.
“We need to use all the extra beds in the corridor to facilitate those patients who need intensive care from the doctors.
She said communities who have mild conditions must seek treatment in the Medical Health Care Centers across Dili before transferring to the national hospital.
