DILI, 06 January 2022 (TATOLI)—The Director of the Drug and Medical Equipment Storage Agency (SAMES), Francisco Borges said SAMES will soon import mosquito repellent, Abate and Malathion from Australia.

Borges said the drugs will be supplied by South Australian company PTY LTD for a total budget of $51,000.

“An Australian company won the tender for the procurement of mosquito repellent, we hope it will arrive in Dili before February,” SAMES Director Francisco Borges told reporters at his office, Kampu Alor Dili, today.

Borges added, the drug is about 75 cartons of Abate, where one carton consists of 25 kilos and liquid malathion about 1400 liters.

“The company has informed us that the delivery of the exterminator will take place in the next two weeks, but depending on the Air flight, we hope that there are no complications in the process of transporting the drugs to Timor-Leste so that the drugs will be distributed to the municipality soon, ‘ said Borges.

He explained that currently, SAMES is also trying to communicate with several companies in Indonesia to import small quantities of pest control from Indonesia, while waiting for large quantities from Australia.

“SAMES is also trying to find support from partners to support exterminators,”

Borges said that currently, SAMES has sufficient stock of mosquito nets to be distributed to every Health center across the country.

“SAMES is preparing to support mosquito nets in every health center,” He said.

The Secretary-General of Timor Leste Red Cross (CVTL), Madalena Hanjam, said, CVTL will support the Ministry of Health by working with fumigation at the affected places across the country.

“Dili is the most affected area, thus it needs to fumigate public places, remove possible mosquito breeding sites, and that it has sufficient chemicals to carry out the work,” Madalena told reporters at Vera Cruz Clinic, Kai- Koli, Dili
