DILI, 06 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SSYS), Abrao Saldanha this wednesday accepted an invitation from the Ambassador of the Popular Republic of China in Timor – Leste, Xiao Jianguo to ask Timor – Leste to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympics which will be held in Beijing – China.
“I met with the Ambassador of the Republic Popular of China, we discussed the participation of East Timorese Athletes to take part in the Winter Olympic 2022 which will be held in Beijing – China, I have informed the Chinese Ambassador that we will send one of Timorese Sky modality to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympic games, ‘Saldanha told Tatoli in the office of SSYS, Lecidere, Dili.
The Athlete is Yohan Gonsalves from Sky modality ready to join the winter Olympic 2022 in Beijing.
“Our athlete Yohan Gonsalves is currently preparing himself in France, he is ready to represent Timor-Leste at the Winter Olympic 2022 competition in Beijing,” He added.
The government through the SSYS will provide maximum support to donate funds to the National Olympic Commission of Timor – Leste to support the athlete for representing Timor – Leste at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing – China.
At the same Place, the Ambassador of the Republic Popular of China Xiao Jianguo said China is willing to support Timor – Leste at the 2022 Winter Olympic Competition in Beijing if the country needs any assistance.
“I discussed with the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports to see how Timor Leste is preparing to join the 2022 Winter Olympic that will be held in Beijing -China in February, we are proud that Timor-Leste has prepared one of its sky athletes to participate in the match, we are willing to help Timor – Leste in any time off needed,” said Jianguo.
This international match will be held on 04 February up to 20 february 2022 in Beijing-China and will be joined by all countries in the world.
The Winter Olympics is held every five years in different countries.
Athlete Yohan Gonsalves has participated in the international sky event in Dubai which was facilitated by the Federation of Timor – Leste Sky ( FSTL) and had shown an accumulation of 4 points, therefore Gonsalves is still trusted by Timor – Leste to participate in the 2022 Winter Olympic competition in Beijing-China.
