Dengue infections Top 288, death Toll raise to five

DILI, 11 january 2022 (TATOLI)-Ministry of Health has recorded five deaths from Dengue Fever on January 10, 2022, out of 288 documented cases since the start of the current outbreak. This outbreak began in January when the government has been concentrating on fighting COVID-19, dengue cases have continued to rise. 

Of the total cases, 191 were recorded from Dili, 17 cases from Manatutu municipality, Eight in Ermera municipality with four recent deaths.

There were also seven cases recorded in Covalima, three cases recorded in the municipality of Viqueque, one case recorded in Bobonaro, and one case in Liquiça.

The Director of Ermera Health Service, António Fatima said the Ermera Health Authority recorded eight cases of dengue fever and four fatalities on January 10, 2020, from the latest dengue outbreak in Ermera.

“The cases have been recorded by the Ministry of Health, of the cases four were confirmed died, most of the patients are children under five years old,” Director of Ermera Health Service, António Fatima informed TATOLI by Phone.

António Fatima explains the chronology of the fatality by saying that, The four children were confirmed dead after being transferred to the Ermera Hospital and they were brought to the hospital in severe condition, they were having gums and blood vomiting.

“The Ermera Health team has provided treatment but was unable to save their lives,” said Mr. Fatima

Fatima said, therefore the Ermera Health Center in collaboration with the community in Ermera carried out socialization to the community, encouraging residents to clean around their homes to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

“We continue to conduct public awareness campaigns, encouraging residents to clean up around their homes to prevent mosquitos from the breeding ground, “ he said.

Regarding the larvicides stock, Fatima added that their office has sufficient Larvicides stock, currently, the health workers are continuing efforts of fumigating places affected by Dengue in Ermera Municipality from the beginning until now.

MS Issues Dengue Warning

The Ministry of Health announced to all residents across the country to approach any health center when experiencing symptoms of dengue fever or any warning signs such as Nausea, Vomiting, Rash, Aches, and pains (eye pain, usually behind the eyes, muscles, joints, or bone pain).

The Ministry of Health appealed to all authorized parties to carry out environmental cleaning activities every week, destroying mosquito breeding sites, to reduce the number of dengue cases.
