Ai Ba Futuru project distributes 75,000  sandalwood plants to farmers in 4 municipalities

DILI, january 13, 2021 (TATOLI)– The German International Organization (GIZ) through the Ai Ba Futuru Agrofloristry Project has started the distribution of 75,000 sandalwood plants to farmers in four municipalities.

Ai Ba Futuru Technical Advisor, Sérgio Barreto said the 75,000 sandalwood plants are distributed to farmers in four cities, which is now in the process of being distributed to 40 villages in Baucau, Manatuto, Lospalos, and Viqueque.

“The distribution process started yesterday (12/01/022) in Baucau municipality. Each municipality will receive 18,000 sandalwood plants, this amount will be distributed to 60 families where each family receives 50 sandalwood plants” The Ai Ba Futuru Technical Advisor, Sérgio Barreto told Tatoli by Phone.

According to Barreto, the distribution process will take three months, starting from January to March 2022.

From 2018 to 2021, the Ai Ba Futuru project has distributed more than 100,000 sandalwood plants to four municipalities and these plants are growing well only some are not growing well due to the long dry season.

“Ai Ba Futuru’s goal is to grow 3 million plants, and to date, we have planted more than 2 million trees,”

In addition, the Ai Ba Futuru project also distributed seeds of local products to the farmers, such as corn, soybeans, peanuts, cassava, sweet potatoes, salak, rambutan, and vanilla.

The output has direct benefits at 12,000 beneficiaries and indirect benefits at 8,000 beneficiaries.
