Ermera, 18 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lú Olo’, had announced to run again for the president in the ‘march election’, promising to combat “injustice, and corruption, collusion, and nepotism (KKN), in the country.”

“I am going to run for President of the Republic of Timor-Leste. I am committed to maintaining the courage of making decisions based on the Constitution as the Head of State,” the President of the Republic, Francisco Guterres ‘Lu Olo’ made the announcement in Ermera municipality.

Lú Olo said defending the constitution is important not only for the Presidency of the Republic but also for the improvement of citizens’ lives.

He said eight points would be the main basis of his candidacy – defending the unity of the State and the people, having dialogues with other State bodies to solve issues facing the population, carrying out dialogues with political parties to seek a national consensus with all entities on the defense, social inclusion, and social justice, combating injustice and KKN, promoting the democracy and sustainable development and strengthening ties with the international community.

“Today, I commit myself, once again, to be the next President of all people, in the next five-year term from 2022 to 2027. I will never walk away from anyone, man or woman. I won’t in favor any group”, he assured.

“I believe that I will win, once again, in the first round of these march elections. I believe the majority of the people will continue to support me,” she added.

Lú Olo said Ermera was a meeting place for the Timorese fighters with full support given to the Guerillas Commander Nino Konis Santana.

President Lu Olo said: “I am honored and confident with the support of the veterans, patriotic generations, the elderly and young people of rice and coffee farmers, workers in the public and private sectors, students and intellectuals.”

He said he recognized the challenges and difficulties facing the people but praised the Timorese people for their understanding.

“Through dialogue and support of national leaders, we can promote democracy, peace, stability, and socio-economic development to fight poverty in the country,” he stressed.

Lú Olo also said that Timor-Leste needs a President with knowledge of international relations to boost ties with other countries to ensure socio-economic development in the country.
