More than three municipalities in Timor-Leste are beneficiary for the TLRC’s program

DILI, 24 january 2022 (TATOLI)- Timor-Leste Red Cross (TLRC) has five main programs comprising Health, Nutrition, Youth, Natural Disaster, Water and Sanitation and has been implemented in several municipalities across the country.

Those programs, TLRC has established water installation for more than 40 kilometers on clean water in Ataúro (Arlo) area, Liquiça (Gariana area) and Viqueque (Makadiki area) and other municipalities.

“Thus, we also built houses for vulnerable people in Atauro and two public toilets in Fleixa (Ainaro) and in Behau (Manatuto) municipalities,” The Secretary-General of TLRC, Luis Pedro Pinto told Tatoli Agency, in his office in Gricenfor, Nain Feto, 24 january, this monday.

It is recalled that TLRC has supported foods and non foods items for the victims on flood response in 2021. We also helped with data collection to identify victims and house damage.

It includes providing water supply and child livelihoods to the shelters across Dili.

TLRC has established 11 young volunteer groups. The youth groups also contribute on Covid-19 front line.

The five programs are funded by the partners composed of New Zealand, Australia, Santos Oil Company, Singapore Red Cross, the amount of 1.4 millions USD.  Con-finance with Timor-Leste government through the Secretary State Youth and Sport and Gabinete Primer Supports Civic Society $.400.000 USD.

Among the implementation of those programmes, TLRC just  achieved 60% of five main program implementations in 2021. It is required to proceed to reach a target 100% in 2022.

The Secretary-General of the Red Cross of Timor-Leste, Luis Pedro Pinto said TLRC has not fully finalized five main programs, due to country lock down and confinement.

“Covid-19 is a big challenge for all parts of the world. It is also referring to the Timor-Leste Red Cross. We just achieved 60% of five program implementations,” he said.

He added, those five main programs, TLRC has been implementing a Health program focused on nutrition, educating people to provide nutritious meals. Youth and natural disaster, clean water and sanitation are integrated programs.

Therefore, The Timor-Leste Red Cross, or Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL) was established in 2000 and legally recognised as an auxiliary to the Timor-Leste Government through a decree law 6/2005 on the 14th September 2005. CVTL has 2,367 members, 164 staff, 2,858 volunteers and a network of 13 branches across all of the 13 municipalities in Timor-Leste. Its headquarters is located in the capital, Dili. CVTL is the 183rd member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

The vision of TLRC is to save and improve the quality of life of vulnerable people. The mission of this organization  is to abide by humanitarian values and the spirit of volunteerism to alleviate the suffering of the socially-excluded and economically- marginalized, by promoting their health and socio-economic development and enhancing their capacity to prepare for and respond to disasters.
