DILI, 28 january 2022 (TATOLI) – The Secretary of the State of Civil Protection of Timor – Leste (SSCPTL), Joaquim Gusmão informed that, the Government through the Ministry of Interior under the SSCPTL worked together with the United Nation Women (UN Women) discussed the draft of National Annual Plan (NAP) with the partners in Timor – Leste to get a validation before being presented at the National Parliament to be ratified.
“UN Resolution 1325 give the mandate to women to take decisions on the peace building process related to the security to avoid the conflicts and human rights violence based on the gender and support gender equality in the peace building process to reconstruct Timor -Leste, therefore the government will put a budget to implement UN resolution 1325 to empower the women in Timor – Leste,” Gusmão told Tatoli at Timor Plaza, Dili today.
Gusmão explained, Timor – Leste is one of the countries that has just left from the post conflict because of that UN resolution 1325 will give women an important role in making decisions on conflict resolution.
“The draft of NAP 1325 will give hope to women in Timor-Leste to be involved in the process of conflict resolution and peace in the world, therefore on this occasion on behalf of the government I thank UN Women for empowering women in Timor-Leste through the funding assistance from the Government of Australia and the Government of Sweden and thank also to the partners from Non-Governmental Organizations who have worked hard in preparing this draft 1325,” Gusmão said.
At the same place, the executive director of the NGO ba Futuru Juliana Marçal, said that the draft of NAP 1325 is very crucial to be adopted in Timor – Leste in order that Timorese women can make the important decisions on conflict resolution and to promote the peace in Timor – Leste.
“UN resolution 1325 is very crucial to be adopted in Timor – Leste because with this resolution women will have the full rights to involve in conflict resolution to establish peace building in Timor – Leste, and with this UN resolution 1325 women will also participate the training for empowering the capacity of women in Timor – Leste in the future,” Marçal said.
