More than 8.000 Chinese Communities celebrates New Year’s Day in Timor–Leste

DILI, 01 february 2022 (TATOLI)- Chinese communities around the world including the Chinese in Timor-Leste celebrated Chinese New Year’s Day,  which is held on 1 february this year according to the Lunar calendar.

“More than 8.000 Chinese communities in Timor-Leste celebrates New Year’s Day in Capital of Dili as well as Chinese communities in municipalities in across the Timor-Leste,” the President of the Trade Association of the Chinese Community of Timor-Leste (TACCTL), Kathleen Gonçalves told reporters at the Cina Maromak, Bairo Formosa, Dili today.

Kathleen explained that the Chinese communities in Timor – Leste celebrate this New Year’s Day together with the Chinese big family in Timor – Leste through praying together to reflect on all the mistakes that have been made in the past year to welcome the goodness in the future.

She added that this year is the year of the Tiger, which means the year of strength that brings the nature of water to all Chinese communities in the world, including the Chinese Communities in Timor – Leste to unite to help each other on the trade aspect.

“This year is the year of the Tiger which brings the nature of water. We know that the Tiger is very ferocious but this year of the Tiger is the Tiger that is live in the water to bring the peace to the Chinese community to unite in conducting the business in Timor-Leste with the aim of contributing to the country through the sustainable development process in Timor – Leste,” Catleen said.

At the same place, the former President of TACCTL in Timor – Leste, Siu Peng Lay confirmed that last year was the year of the buffalo and this year is the year of the Tiger which is live in the water, and this is very relevant to the year of the presidential election in Timor-Leste which will be held on 19 march 2022.

“We know that Tigers are very strong and ferocious in nature but this year’s tiger is a tiger that lives in water that is calm like the characteristic of water. Therefore, we hope that the presidential election in Timor – Leste will be aquatic too and will bring strength, cohesiveness, serenity and happiness like the characteristic of water that will bring the happiness and peace to all the people of Timor – Leste,” Lay said.
