DILI, 08 february 2022 (TATOLI) – Minister of Transport and Communications (MoTC), José Agustinho da Silva has revealed that Australian carrier Qantas will carry out its operation from Darwin to Dili, Timor-Leste.
Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak will fly to Australia to meet with his Australian counterpart, Scott Morrison, to officially announce the official flights of Australian carrier Qantas to Dili, on march 27, 2022.
“Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak will depart for Australia. Therefore, I requested His Excellency to discuss with his Australian counterpart Scott Morrison about the air service agreement between Timor-Leste and Australia. Based on this agreement, Australian carrier Qantas was chosen by the Australian Government to carry out its operation from Darwin, Australia to Dili, Timor-Leste,” Silva told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak at his residence in Dili, on tuesday.
Qantas Airline was granted the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by the Civil Aviation Authority of Timor-Leste to carry out its operation: “We have sent the Air Operator Certificate to the Australian Civil Aviation Safety Authority.”
He said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MoFAC) would carry out technical cooperation with the Australian Government, particularly the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT) to launch the first operation of Qantas Airline from Darwin to Dili.
In February 2020, the Parliament National approved the Air service agreement between Timor-Leste and Australia.
“To ensure the operation of the Australian Qantas Carrier to Dili, the Civil Aviation Authority of Timor-Leste will need to offer a space for Qantas Airline at the Dili International Airport,” he said.
“Qantas’ operation to Timor-Leste is important to facilitate the people. Therefore, Qantas would reveal the price of tickets,” added Silva.
