ILO provides capacity building to 34 road worker contractors

DILI, 21 february 2022 (TATOLI)- The International Labor Organization is providing capacity building to 34 road worker contractors on Enhancing rural access (ERA) program.

 The project manager of Enhancing rural access (ERA), Albert URIYO said It required more capacity building for contractors and focuses on rural road rehabilitation and new construction.

There are 34 Timorese contractors who participated in the capacity building. The training is conducted by the DOM BOSCO training center. Therefore, Business training and contract Management training are conducted by IADE.

The contractors are focused on the finance, administration, technology, Labor operations and equipment training.

The director of INDMO, Isabel Fernandes De Lima said that INDMO is most appreciative for the 34 contractors to be able to gain capacity building to work for road work constructions.

INDMO is offered an operational certificate to the training center that has the capacity for human resources and equipment.

INDMO has distributed two more contractors who gained compaction certification due to good progress.

Thus, the contractors gained more experience in rural road construction and rehabilitation in fourth municipalities Composed of Baucau, Manatuto, Viqueque, and Lautem.

It is known that the contractors have finalized 98 kilometers of a rural road. The project was supervised by qualified engineers who attended the training. There are 81 kilometers of road rehabilitation and 17 kilometers from Spot improvement.

9 contractors are showing very positive work progress in ERA-AF Contractor Excellence Scheme (ECES).

This program has been implemented for four years, since 2018, and will end in this march 2022.

The European Union Ambassador, Andrew Jacobs said on bus remarks that the European Union is committed to supporting the government to provide financial support for rural road rehabilitation on new construction.

“It is providing the road connectivity for rural people to transport their local product to the market,” He said

EU is proud of the good progress contractors after attending the training program which is provided by Dom Bosco training center and IADE.

Enhancing Rural Access (ERA) Agro-Forestry project is a component of the part partnership for sustainable Agroforestry (PSAF) between Timor-Leste, the European Union (EU), Germany (GIZ), and International Labor Organization (ILO).

The European Union is allocated 12 million Euros for the ERA project which is implemented by ILO.
