DILI, 24 february 2022 (TATOLI)- in 2022, Timor-Leste neighbor country Indonesia will finalize the land borders issue.

Indonesia Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Okto Dorinos Manik said the discussion on the delimitation of the land border between Timor-Leste and Indonesia will be concluded this year.

“Both country’s representatives have been meeting on the delimitation of land borders discussion in the last year. Due on the covid-19 most affected for public health, the discussion process is delayed and it will be finalized this year,” Indonesia Ambassador for Timor-Leste, Okto Dorinos Manik told reports at Secretary of State for youth and Sports office (SSYS), in Lecidere, this thursday.

Thus, the Minister of foreign affairs and coordinating, Adaljiza Albertina Xavier Dos Reis Magno said that the discussion process between Timor-Leste and Indonesia focuses on negotiating the delimitation of land borders postponed due to covid-19.

Therefore, the representative of Timor-Leste is expecting the covid-19 number will be decreased in Indonesia. It is allowing both countries to continue the discussion and to conclude the delimitation of land borders.

It is known that the Principal negotiation chief of Timor-Leste, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão has met with the Indonesia Minister of coordinating on Defense and Policy Wiranto, and The Minister of Foreign Affair of Indonesia, Retno Marsudi has signed the agreement on the delimitation of land borders.

On 22 july 2019, H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and H.E. General Wiranto signed “Agreed Principles” on the final settlement of our land boundary.

On 4 and 5 february 2020, high-level meeting between H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão and the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

In this accordance, it has finalized two segments composed of Noebesi and Citrana, also Bijael and Sunan-Oben. Both countries signed a deal with the delimitation land border between Kupang (NTT) and Oe-cusse Ambeno from Timor-Leste.

The final segments have complex characteristics or features that require further detailed discussions to resolve, for example in Noel Besi/Citrana, Oe-Curse which requires agreement on the exact terminus points where the land boundary meets the sea H.E. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao is leading this negotiation under Government Resolution No. 22/2018 of 5 December.

Bijael and Sunan-Oben allocated at the borders land of Tengah Utara parts of NTT province and   142,7 hectares on Oecusse Ambeno as the land territories of Timor-Leste.
